Affordability
.

Affordability fkunone: I read a variety of magazines that have to do with Men's Health, Sexuality, Finance, etc.

Sometimes, I think for the "average" man, it's a tough go to see these expensive items for sale. Granted, I want them, but I can't have them.  So that for me, decreases the idea that I read any magazine that touts it.

There are times I think I can still strive for it though.

But in today's reality, we have kids, and some of us here are separated and pay child support, etc.  These are facts, not complaints that "Wah! I can't have that because...".  Just dosing the reality.

All in all, I wonder how many of us still dream and actively strive for that Movado, that Enzo?  Or have we found ourselves numb to those ads and just do the best we can?
Re: Affordability just_me_detroit: I have a subscription to car and driver. If the car in the article is more than 50,000 and not named Corvette I won't read the article.

Re: Affordability BobFromAcctg: Its not just mens magazines that create discontent.. All advertising does that.  When I have no money, I am very careful as to what I watch because all I feel is like I don't measure up since I can not afford it.

I find that I am more content when I make an effort to not look at what I can not afford.
Re: Affordability C-Note: People have to learn to appreciate what they have and stop crying about what they see in advertisements.  After food, shelter and a pot to piss in everything else should be considered a bonus.  I had my eureka moment a few years ago and decided to live a simpler life.  Stuff was cluttering my life and home and still is to a lesser degree.

A movado tells the same time as cheap $5 buck watch.  A corvette is nice, but it's not like it makes any difference when the speed limit for all is 55mph or 65mph.  I have friends on both ends of the financial spectrum and I find myself shaking my head time after time.  Some with money still clip coupons, buy lotto tickets and pinch every penny.  While others scrapping by settle for nothing less then name brand, premium goods that often could be substituted for similar products that cost less and place a lighter financial burden on them.

It's great to treat yourself once in a while, but I would get demoralized by Robin Leech's Life styles of the rich and famous.
Re: Affordability *Tricia: i just cancelled my premium cable channels so i can wax my legs....is that cheap or logical?  I just swapped out the bill!
