Making my house a 'home'
.

Making my house a 'home' superwife: I have this sudden urge to fix things up in my apartment.  It is a very small place, and I rent it, but it is still my home.  It'll be 2 years in September that I am here, and it is the first place that is 'all mine'.

I was never really big on the domestic stuff; decorating, cleaning, etc.  But I am tired of the mess.  I am tired of the plain-ness.  Other than my daughter's room (which we painted Pepto-Bismol pink when we moved in, to make it 'special' for her) I have done almost nothing.  I put up new blinds in the living room, have pictures of my daughter up, and that's about it.  The walls are off white, and all the other windows have the blinds that were here when I moved in.

So here's my plan:

I want to bring in some color into my kitchen.  I know there are a lot of nice red accented items, like utensils, cannisters, soap dispensers, etc.  I also want to get a new valance and a little rug to go near the sink.  My mom is super excited about this.  She is so into all this, so I'm gonna take her lead, and hopefully she'll keep me motivated.  I have a ton of Bed Bath and Beyond coupons, and will do it a little at a time, to keep costs low.

When my man is a little more functional, he is going to paint my bedroom.  I am very excited about this, because my ex never did anything like that for us.  We had a 4 bedroom house when we first got married.  The only thing he ever did was our daughter's nursery.  And if it weren't for his father, it would not have gotten done.  It just hit me about 2 days ago: we drove past my old block (my bf lives about 10 blocks away from where I lived with my ex), and I got tearful.  I told him I miss my house, and all the big plans I had.  I hated the fact that we did not take pride in our home, and that he was a lasy piece of sh*t that didn't want to spend any money on it (but spent it on electronic crap >:().

So I am really looking forward to this.  Now that school is done for me, I feel like I can handle being a bit more domesticated.  I just hope this positive attitude remains and I start keeping my apartment clean.  Just one question: what do I do with all my crap ???

And, oh yeah... I'm going to start cooking too.  I need to.  I need to save money, and am tired of the same old take out

Re: Making my house a 'home' Alphabet Girl: That's great, Kim. I bet it will be easy to stay motivated to keep it clean once its all done and looking so nice. :)

Re: Making my house a 'home' superwife: I sure hope so.  For years I used 'I'm in school' as my excuse.  No more!!
Re: Making my house a 'home' PennyLane: Go for it!!!
I love a clean organized home.  Throw away anything and all you don't need want or use. (or sack it up and take it to good will)
Clutter is no ones friend.  If you don't use it .......get rid of it.
I love those "cleaning"moments.

Re: Making my house a 'home' Alphabet Girl: I am as anti pack-rat as one can get. I've thrown things away I've later needed because of it. Oops! I may not be much for decorating, but at least the clutter (when there is some) mainly consists of kids toys and paperwork on my desk. That's it!
