He has not been diagnosed but I would bet money that my stbx is manic. He has the extreme highs and lows and goes on manic "episodes". So I can really feel for you. It is so dificult to reason with the unreasonable.

Re: Mental Illness---Bipolar notmyself: my ex was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and went untreated, and he was tentatively diagnosed with bipolar disorder by our counselor. he went to our family dr who concurred, and he was put on paxil. he left less than a week later and refused to continue the medication. his brother was diagnosed with bipolar/ manic depression and his sister was diagnosed with a mood disorder, both on meds.

There's nothing to do but deal with it - day by day - that I know of. You have to try to be understanding, which at times is nearly impossible, because they are not rational!
I feel your pain - BIG TIME!
