I had the same thing, In CT. (hence INCT) we went to the court house and did the paperwork right there.
For an uncontested divorce we had to have paperwork done and signed and all matters agreed on, so, we had agreed on the split before, but none of the formal paperwork had been done. In fact I was only legally seperated for about 10 min before the divorce. then the strangest thing happens.. you go into a court room , and the lawyers sort of vie for position on who's case gets called.. Since I filed (because she wouldn't she just left) I had to take the stand. My lawyer asked things like, state your name, birthday, date of marriage, were you infact married, The judge asked me if I thought it was fair deal ( how do you say, actually no I would rather have my wife back) so I said yes. Her lawyer didn't have any questions for me. She had to stand and say that the marriage had broken down with no hope of reconciliation. My lawyer asked her about some things that she was to have taken care of prior to court , and as usual didn't, so it had to go on record that she swore under oath to take care of them and not come back to me for anything.
all in all, a couple hours of screwing around the court house, and 15 min in court.. bing bang boom. a marriage is erased.

Re: What happens in court??? RJM: That sounds so depressing....I guess I have a lot to look forward to. I remember first seeing the papers after divorce was filed for, I kept looking at the phrase "marriage irretrieveably broken" and thinking what a joke.
Re: What happens in court??? INCT: RJM,
I totally agree, my marriage wasn't irretrieveably broken, my ex-wife was/is! I never should have agreed to it. at least not so easily.
it was depressing for me. I was handed a check after it was all done, and I thought to myself, so, this is what a marriage is worth.. what a shame, unbelivable..
