Selling engagement ring disavowed: There was a discussion here once, I think, on what to do with the engagement diamond after the divorce. I have thought about recycling it into a solitare necklace or such, but truth be told, it would still hold memories, and really can't deal with that anymore. Best to just get rid of it.
Anyway, I'd like to sell it, but not really sure what I could get for it. I am a tad bit afraid of getting cheated at a pawn shop.
Anyone with tips on how to sell?
Re:Selling engagement ring caligirl: D-
you may want to look for a trustworthy jeweler in your city/town, and get it appraised first, and highly likely, if he/she appraises it, that may be a good place to ask where you can sell it at.
I know when my s2bx gave me my ring (it was his grandmothers) he had the box and papers with it (his mom had the ring in her safety deposit box- so he got off easy..he didn't even have to buy a ring for me...)..anyway the papers stated the quality, color and size of the diamond, in addition to the value during the time purchased.
I imagine when one proposes, he usually presents just the ring, not the papers with it (unlike my guy)....
Nevertheless, my point is, the jeweler could be the best person to put an accurate value on what its worth before you sell.
Try to get someone you know, or a refferal....you also need to be careful of someone you don't know, and the possibility of them seitching the diamond (sorry, don't want to scare you- but a gal has to be careful)...
-hope that helps...
good luck!
Re:Selling engagement ring marfanoidus: Hey disavowed,
Do you have kids? If you do you may want to consider holding on to the ring as an heirloom for them.
just a thought,

Re:Selling engagement ring disavowed: No, no kids, Walt.
He doesn't know , but I gave the diamond earrings he game me this last Chirstmas, to my neice. It was her 18th birthday last month, and I hadn't the means to get her anything. He doesn't know that I gave them away. :-X An 18th birthday for a young girl is important. I had hoped that we might have been able to give her $ for college, but the divorce has drained the accounts. SO, to make a long story longer, I have only a neice whom I would consider for heirlooms, and the earrings were the best I could do in that department. She also is in love with my wedding dress, which she will also get, that is if she doesn't think it is cursed now. :)
Re:Selling engagement ring klktopp: Hi there!
I know that some jewelers will buy back the ring if you want to really get rid of it -- not too many, but some. And, only at the purchase place. BUT, I'd recommend hanging on to it for a while. Don't be hasty. Yes, it's sentimental now, but maybe in a few years you could add some stones to it and have a knockout ring that has nothing to do with your ex. I think the sentimentality would be reduced if it's put in a new setting in a few years.
