Re:Breaking a lease Shanna: The time I broke a lease that wasn't legally back by the army....I just talked to the landlord. I told him I wanted a bigger place la-di-da. We agreed I would pay the rent on the place until he re-rented it or my lease was up.

My place was re-rented within two weeks....so I actually got money back for that month.

Other time...I had Jag give me the document stating that if my husband was to be deployed more than 3 months that I could break my lease. I had to give 30 written notice and pay an extra months rent. no biggie. Land Lord was POed bc they didn't know I could do that, but JAG was glad to provide me with the proper paperwork.
Re:Breaking a lease amess: I am a private landlord, and my tennant may not break the lease without paying the full contract, because that is the contract. If he wanted to leave, then I would wait until I could rent it, but he would be liable for the rent until I did. I also put into the contract that he may not sublease. Know your contract, and then you will know what you can do.

Re:Breaking a lease sheryl3012: Generally, when you break a lease you are responsible to make the remaining payments. However, the landlord must make a good faith effort to re-rent the apartment. If they re-rent it then you will only be responsible for the time that the complex was not receiving $. For example, if you move out in Jan and they try to re-rent it and are able to do so in April, you will be responsible for the rent for Jan, Feb , Mar.
Good luck
Re: Breaking a lease nicksinif: Hi. I live in Vancouver BC Canada. I am going to break a lease also. The area that I live in is a highly desirable spot and apartments usually get rented in 2 weeks, sometimes faster. The area around here is known to have waiting lists because they are overloaded. I submitted half a months rent, which is 2 weeks. If I break the lease and move out, would the deposit be enough to cover me?
Re: Breaking a lease starzluv: you really need to read your lease, a lot of times they tell you the acceptable reasons for breaking the lease. if not, then talk to your landlord. i know the last place i broke a lease at stated in the lease that if we needed the lease broken because we were moving out of state all we had to do was give 30 days notice.
