Re: How bad is it...really? Anna: Miss A-
When my H left, my household income went from $120,000 to $35,000. YIKES. But I've learned how to budget, stopped going on my infamous clothes shopping sprees, and done pretty darn well. I have 3 little ones and my oldest is in private school. I was able to buy a house this year after selling our joint house in the mountains, and bought out the lease on my minivan. So far so good. You can do it, it just takes discipline. Good luck!
Re: How bad is it...really? lisaAnn: Hi Miss A.

I don't know if the state laws are the same where you are, but, in PA if you deliberately quit your job so you don't have to support someone, the DR officer will assess you at your earning capacity. So that royally screws him!!

Re: How bad is it...really? missourigirl55792: Hi, I have been going through a divorce for 2 months now and have 2 children.  I make around 25000.00 a year.  My soon to be ex does not contribute at all.  Basically what I am trying to say is that you can make it, you may have to cut back on certain things though.  I have cut back drastically.  But, poor or not I am much more happier.  Good luck.
Re: How bad is it...really? down2basics: I'm with you Missouri!  My x contribues next to nothing for the care of our two kids.  He owes me to date around $4,000 in medical bills and in the money he stole from me.  I don't guess I'll ever see any of that money.  My lawyer says that basically the only thing we can do is throw him in jail.  That won't get me my money...and will also turn my kids against me for putting their daddy in jail...His family would feed on the bad publicity that they could pour on my kids about me if I did that - so I just deal with what comes....

Hang in there - you can do this!
Re:How bad is it...really? LicoriceWhip: I would like to put something into perspective for everybody. It is most definitly not a good idea to become unemployed at all if you pay child support.

I am facing a situation where I will be forced to pay my current rate of child support when I lose my job. Child support always goes up, it never comes down even if you can't pay for reasons beyond your control such as job loss, illness, or even military service. Even in death, if you have anything, it goes to pay the child support before anything else except taxes. I can also be considered a criminal after lapsing on my child support after (what is to me) a short time. At my rate of pay, it will be about 6 months of not having any pay. In my field, it might take 6 months to find another job. A criminal for being unemployed!!!!!???? My state will charge an exhorbitant interest rate on back support as well as take away licenses (drivers licenses, license plates,... basically anything you apply to the state for) in the meantime. That is hardly fair considering this was to be against fathers of illegitimate children. I wanted my family and my children. For some reason, fathers of children born in wedlock who become divorced are relegated to deadbeats because of the actions of a few. it is an unholy tragedy when someone has it thrust upon them like this.

I guess, just venting. It has been about a year since I posted last.
