I think first and foremost there is no clear-cut definition on what makes a player. I mean is a gentleman that collects numbers for a living to sort out the bad seeds a player? A woman who has a tendency to lead mean on for material goods, is that considered a player? Does money matter in the definition? Social status? Political status? How about power in general? By possessing control throughout the process does that make you a player? Or is it defined by fear of the majority of the population that does not wish to take risk with matters of the heart? Do they penalize the "player" because that individual is willing to take risks where they are not?
The best definition that I have ever had both explained to me and subsequently explained to others, in my own words, is as follows: You are defined as a player when you have the ability to maintain control of multiple relationships on the individual's terms. I know it is a mouthful for most people and some would attest to the fact that it is only an illusion of control. However, I tend to disagree with those people for multiple reasons.
Players aren't defined by money and material goods because you can be broke but still fake the funk. Players aren't defined by power either, because you can trick people into thinking you are more important than you really are. I have seen men that only had power, money or their looks going for them and they were not players. Why? Because they can't juggle their feelings between the various women in their lives. Nothing against them, but you don't call someone a player that only has one woman in his cell phone who rules the roost.
Like I all ready mentioned, there is no right or wrong answer. The definition I gave above though is the truth through my eyes.

player.
