What do you do to relax? jason_stl: At happy hour last night six of us guys were sitting around talking. Four of us were single, one was having his gf move in with him inside of a week, and the other was about a month away from proposing (he admits it is on the "horizon"). Not that most of that matters, but I wanted to give you all a little insight as to why I bring this up.
So, I'll call this chap Dave for all intents and purposes. Dave is one of the single guys and was talking about going out to dinner Tuesday night with a woman. He proclaimed it was an utter disaster citing reasons such as him being too uptight, not feeling comfortable, no direction to the conversation, couldn't keep her attention and so forth. I took all this in as I can recount a few stories similar to his.
Now, and we'll call this second bloke Gary, who was also one of the singles amongst the round table. Gary pipes up and asks him what is his plan for getting relaxed before a date? (No, it wasn't like that What About Mary movie) We were actually throwing around trade secrets last night.
Dave talks about taking a nap before the date so he feels refreshed - but didn't get a chance to because he was working too late Tuesday. Gary's big thing was running a few miles and taking a long shower beforehand. Bob (the other single aside from me) said he enjoyed "mapping out" his conversation - almost like prepping for an interview.
I thought the conversation was pretty interesting to say the least. I also figured others might enjoy reading and giving their thoughts on what they do. As usual, this is when the real-life stuff I do on the weekends spills over in my downtime at the office to Ojar.

Re:What do you do to relax? in_search_of: Ha, well, mine is not necessarily relaxing, but since most dates take place on a Saturday, I usually spend the day cleaning house, taking out the garbage, cleaning up, and cleaning things that I would not normally clean on a 'normal' saturday. I make sure the house is clean, because it feels better to come home to a clean house, even if the date is a disaster. I also think through things to talk about. I went on a date recently where I definitely felt like he had thought through things to ask, if the conversation got slow, so a few times he would ask rather good questions. Nothing, like, "What do you think of the Stockmarket?" ;) But good questions none the less.
But I spend the day either cleaning or doing homework, so that I don't have anything else to think about when I am out. Which I find helps. I also agree with your friend who attempts to take a nap, I do that too, when I get the chance, because you do feel more refreshed, and ready for the day, and a nice long warm shower, to get relaxed as well.
Just anything that needs to get done, so that it is not eating at my mind, plus it keeps me from overthinking the date itself.
Re:What do you do to relax? Kinney26: Working out at the gym, while not in itself relaxing, helps me relax afterwards. I was kinda stressed last night and so I went to the gym and I was in a very good mood soon after. I also like to pop in a cd and play some x box. Sometimes I get stressed when ISO is stalking me heavily so I find these as good ways to relieve the stress and fear. ;)

Re:What do you do to relax? amola: relax...now that is a word that is generally not contained in my vocabulary! right now i work a full-time job from home and a part-time job on 95% of the days/nights that stbx has the kids. so my "spare time" is spent doing the laundry, cleaning the house, cooking, eating, and being online. usually those are all done at the same time though (i have redefined "multitasking")
on the rare chances that i actually get to "relax" i usually sit in front of the tv and watch the shows that i tape on the satellite...i'll sit and watch 3 or 4 of them back to back, usually with a big fat bowl of ice cream and a diet pepsi or some other highly nutritious snack.
as for the pre-dating relaxation...well, i can't say that i've been "dating" exactly. however, i have gone out to the local bar with some friends several times, and although there is guy that i've uhhhhh.....spent some "quality time" with ;D ;) i can't say that we're actually dating. but if i'm going out to meet them, beforehand i'm doing the usual primping and preening in front of the mirror, and i try to get the house cleaned up just in case someone might come over...or come home with me ;).
one of these days, when my house is officially cleaned up (i'm still recovering from the mess of kicking him out and he still has crap here to get out, which was supposed to be done today) i have vowed to myself that i will keep up on at least the laundry better than i have been...i'm good at washing and drying it, but it sits in the hampers (clean) for days on end before i put it away and it's beginning to drive me nuts. but once i get to that point, i think that i'll be able to relax much more!
