Holiday Blues Busting MadorSad: Ok guys I have a lot of experience in this area and I would like to give some help here just some stuff to try folks it may work for you it may not but as I have found information is good and if you have suggestions add away
MoS’s Holidays Blues Busting
1. Do not try and pretend that there is not a holiday (This will never work)
2. Do not go over board about the holiday (This will blow up in your face)
3. Find the group of single people at work see where they are meeting Go with them (There is a group and they will welcome you with open arms)
4. Offer to work for people that have family in town (It will make you feel better to know that you helped someone)
5. Bring some work home AND DO IT you can watch the TV and work (You are doing something to keep your mind occupied)
6. Plan the day well in advance just a plan nothing detailed (You will not feel lost if you have a plan)
7. This is a tough one but if offered go to a friends house you can ask what time they are opening presents and show up after that (Yes you feel like a stranger but you are with people)
8. If your kids are not with you call them just for a quick second be happy and strong it is there day (I never could do this but the old letter thing worked)
9. Guys/Girls find a game on TV and watch it (This kills hours of time)
10. IF you are in a strange town go out hit a bar/grill DO NOT GET DRUNK (There are a bunch of people alone on the holidays guys)
11. Do not watch X-mass movies alone in your room (This will kill ya every time)
12. Go home alone late and then get smashed do not call anyone and cry yourself to sleep (I’ve done this most every Holiday I have been alone, this can not be avoided sorry but true)
I have used every one of these things all over the world from South America to Indonesia from the East coast to the West coast. The first one is the hardest after you get that under your belt it will get easer but I will be honest the first one sucks. If you need more I.M. me and I’ll be glad to help any way I can. ;)
Add your hints to the list and remember you are never alone people ;D

Re:Holiday Blues Busting tara: That's an excellent list, MoS.
I grew up Jewish, so Christmas, at least, doesn't have the emotional impact it does on many other people.
Still -- I'll be heading to my parents' house for Chinese food (Jewish Christmas tradition), then heading back home. There's a 24/7 coffee shop two blocks from my place -- and I suspect the Christmas crowd will be quite fascinating. (Plus -- since it's a coffee shop, there's no getting liquored up.)
Re:Holiday Blues Busting MadorSad: Bump ;D
