A cheating woman's greatest enemy is suitors who find out about each other. Kept apart, she can continue her appearance as an innocent, dutiful partner to each man showing her affections.
Anger probably wasn't the most useful of reactions though. Cold distance shown through the detached tone of your acknowledgement that her refusal to show you decency and respect requires you to tell her to consider the two of you forever in the past doesn't give her the "I'm scared of his abusive anger" response.
