The first question that came to my mind when I read this was how could she even believe him if he's telling her he broke up with this other woman? Do his actions even warrant this? Has he proven that he can be trusted?
To me, it sounds like you're asking for trouble with this one. I would give it time and tell him that he needs to earn your trust again before you even begin to discuss this matter further.
Just something to think about.

This time he did and I know that for sure his mom told me. Im still pretty good friends with her. He still talks to her on the phone though. I know because he tells me.

I wouldnt trust him. If you had no reason not to trust him 7 years but he went with another woman I would say that you should have no trust now regardless of seven years. Unless he had zero contact that you knew of, which you know he still has contact, then I would say he is coming to as a rebound of such for now.
