You think we have it bad? (Warning: might make you cry) AloneandCold: When I moved into the duplex I live in now, I met my duplex neighbors, a ninety + couple and their 70+ mentally challenged daughter. The couple had been together since they were in their late teens. The husband doted on his wife. He took her for a drive every night. He just drove her around anywhere she desired to go. He didn't want her stuck at home staring out the window at the world. Shortly after I moved in the wife started to have a harder time moving around. The husband forever loving of his wife installed hang rails on the side of the house so that she could make her way to the porch to sit. She had a hard time getting in and out of the car for their evening drive so he traded the car in. Every 3 days for 2 months a different new car would be sitting in the drive way. He wanted it to be absolutely perfect so his wife could enjoy the ride. If one did not have a seat quite comfortable enough for her he traded it in. If one was so high it made it hard for her to get in he traded it in. If one had a seat too low she couldn't get out he traded it in. Finally he settled on one they thought was perfect. Only three weeks after they decided on the car they wanted the husband took sick. He was old fashioned and stubborn. He refused to let them take him to see a doctor. Wishing to abide by what he husband wanted the old lady and daughter did nothing but take care of him the best they could. After a few weeks a towing company came and repossessed their new car. Finally the man grew so sick that he could no longer move, and one day so sick he could no longer eat. The daughter came to my house and asked my brother who was living with me if he would come over and call an in home nurse business so they could help with the husband. My brother went over there only to discover that he needed to call 911 not a nurse. When they ambulance arrived they took the man, barely alive to the hospital. Later that night the hospital called the wife and daughter and told them the man had passes away. The wife was not even able to say goodbye or see her husband before he was gone. Now she sits and stares out her window at the world. Her daughter takes a taxi to the store for their groceries and they get on as well as they can. Today when I came home for my break in-between classes the daughter asked me to drive her to the store. They are now broke and can no longer afford a taxi. The store she needed to go to was just too far for her to walk. As I drove her to the store she says to me "I miss my dad" but mom she doesn't know what to do. "Every morning she wakes up and asks me, is he really dead? He can't be really dead." The husband has been dead for over 6 months. The wife stiff cannot grasp her head around the fact he is gone. She will likely spend the rest of her days staring out her window, wondering "is he really dead?"

I love the fact that he was so incredibly sweet and they lasted forever... I love that... is there any way we can help them? Maybe setup a paypal account and we can donate whatever we might have to spare?

Re:You think we have it bad? (Warning: might make you cry) AloneandCold: I would have to figure something out. I would have to do it so they wouldn't know I had anything to do with it. They feel bad enough just asking for a ride. Any ideas?
