At the risk of sounding like a stalker, which i'm not, i was curious if anyone here has ever used one of those internet services, where u pay like 40 dollars to get info on someone, for example ur ex. It's more of a curiousity thing with me, to see if she's married or in jail, which are both good possibilities. I wouldn't contact her, just curious if anyone's used these services, and if they're reliable.

No, it's not illegal. The information that they provide is all from public records. They simply provide data broker services for information you could find yourself if you had the time.
Yes, it does work. Most of the time at least. The more info you have on the person to start with, the more accurate your results will be.
My question to you is...
Beyond simple morbid curiosity, what would be the point of doing so? What positive thing could come from it? (Note: I am not being judgemental here, simply asking the question...)
